What are learning credits?
Learning credits can be thought of as a form of DIT currency that can be utilized by the holder to purchase and view any learning credit-based DIT product. Current learning credit-based products include lectures from Doctors In Training's Solid Pharmacology series, Solid Internal Medicine series and Understanding Healthcare Reform. Study Plans

Unless otherwise specified, this study plan is intended to be used Monday-Saturday. We generally recommend one day off for every six days of studying to prevent burn-out, except in the few before your exam when you may want to study seven days per week.

Weeks 11 & 12: What to do immediately after finishing the Doctors In Training Course
Take your exam within a 5-10 day window of finishing your DIT course. During that period, you should:
  • Take an 8 hour home practice test using your electronic question bank in “mixed question mode” and then brush up on weak areas indicated from results of test.
  • Take another NBME self-assessment to see how you are performing before the actual exam.
  • The last 6 days before your test, re-read First Aid (a sixth of the book daily) and re-review highest-yield topics of DIT.

Strongly consider the following book choices for additional preparation:
(Use especially for the weakness areas noted by your NBME Self Assessment baseline)

1. Board Review Series Pathology

(or Goljan Pathology)

2. Board Review Series Physiology

3. Lippincott Biochemistry

(or Goljan Biochemistry)

4. Lippincott Pharmacology 5. Robbins Pathology Chapters 1-7 6. High Yield Neuroanatomy

Important Notes:

  • If you are retaking Step 1, you need to take time off from work and school and concentrate solely on your exam preparation success.
  • If you must attend school while preparing, look at your med school schedule now and determine which weeks you will study less for the USMLE and which you will need to devote more time to complete the study plan.
  • Place a check mark on the upper right-hand corner of a page in First Aid completed to keep track of what you have already done.
  • Meet with a study partner 2-3 times a week to quiz each other over the First Aid pages read in previous weeks.
  • Each week, set aside a small amount of time to quickly review the First Aid pages that you read the previous week.
  • Take all practice tests in timed, mixed mode like the actual exam.
  • If this plan is too difficult, then ditch the "Additional Books" and use them as reference resources when reviewing First Aid.
  • Our blog – The DIT Student Center – is a place where students can be confident that they are getting advice from an expert. Our chief blogger Melodee Mancuso, PhD, shares her wealth of knowledge from over 25 years experience at the University of Texas Medical Branch, most recently as the Director of Academic Support Services and Career Counseling.
