What is the Doctors In Training USMLE Step 1 Review?

This is a two-part course available for any student wanting to perform well on the USMLE Step 1.

Part 1

During Part 1 of the course, 15 high-yield, clinically focused questions will be made available to you twice or three times a week depending on your start date. With respect to the 2012 courses, the questions will be made available beginning in January 2012 and will continue until May 2012. If you register after January 2012, all of the previously released questions will be made available to you after your account and log-in details have been established, and future questions will be made available to you as they are released.

New Video Answers

We are excited to announce that we have added an additional feature this year that will allow you to access a short answer video on the course site. In this short video, Dr. Jenkins and additional MD educators will provide answers to your Part 1 questions. We strongly recommend completing the questions on your own and annotating First Aid prior to reviewing the answer videos even though these videos will be available to you at the same time questions are posted. To access these videos, just return to the Part 1 section of your dashboard on the course site.

This part of the course is designed to strengthen your knowledge base for the USMLE by reviewing high-yield information from the first two years of medical school. If you are currently attending medical school, the Doctors In Training USMLE Step 1 Review will not only help you study for the USMLE, but it will also help strengthen the knowledge base of what you are learning in the first few years of medical school.

Part 2

This portion of the 2012 course will begin on a date after March 12, 2012 that you determine works best for you. It consists of:

  • Approximately 80 hours of high-yield lectures that can be watched at any pace you like.
  • A high-yield study guide that corresponds with the lectures and is packed full of questions, notes and diagrams, study hints, and daily quizzes.
  • All lectures will be taught by one of our Physicians:
    • Brian Jenkins, MD
    • Mike McInnis, MD
    • Chris Lewis, MD
    • Hampton Richards, MD
    • Jennifer Shuford, MD

This part of the course is designed to help you review high-yield USMLE information in a manner that will make it easy for you to remember on the actual test day.

  • Because you will have already learned most of the topics covered, the sessions will be fast-paced and mentally stimulating for a more powerful review.
  • Emphasis will be placed on active learning and on making the information more easily digestible so that it will be easier to relearn and remember on the test day.
  • Additional emphasis will be placed on making vital connections between topics as well as continual review of the information so as to cement it in your mind.
  • Difficult topics will be explained thoroughly in a fashion that is organized and easy to understand.

Should I use a Qbank?

DIT believes Qbanks are a highly effective tool for students when preparing for Step 1. Our physicians and student advising team recommend completing a Qbank with approximately 2,000 questions.

Here are a few additional Qbank tips:

  • Studying the explanations to the questions is an essential component of your preparation; so do not make the mistake of just doing the questions.
  • Make a Qbank schedule that works for you and stick with it. If you would like to work with one of our student advisors to create a customized study plan, click here.
  • Most Qbanks for Step 1 are created in a way that allow you to take your practice quizzes in subject mode or mixed mode. Our advising team recommends doing your Qbanks in timed, mixed mode and to complete the entire Qbank before taking your board exam.

Our physicians have reviewed the USMLE Weapon Qbank questions and recommend utilizing this set of high-yield and dynamically changing questions as part of your Step 1 studies. Click here to learn how you can utilize the USMLE Weapon Step 1 Qbank at no additional cost.
