1.Understanding Health Care Reform: PPACA Basics, Part 1 2 Learning Credits | Available Now
Dr. Matz provides a brief overview of the key components of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), including the law’s popular and potentially not-so-popular features. He begins a discussion of the reforms to the health insurance industry, including increased transparency and limitations to variations in insurance premium rates.
2.Understanding Health Care Reform: PPACA Basics, Part 2 2 Learning Credits | Available Now
Dr. Matz continues the discussion of the reforms to the health insurance industry begun in Part 1. Featured topics include statutory changes to the medical loss ratio, new “essential benefits” requirements, and the prohibition of benefit caps.
3.Understanding Health Care Reform: PPACA Basics, Part 3 2 Learning Credits | Available Now
Dr. Matz examines the establishment of state-based exchanges for the purchase of health insurance policies, and looks at specific features of three different proposed models for these exchanges. Dr. Brian Jenkins also discusses the mandate for individual health insurance under PPACA, and the tax penalties associated with failure to purchase insurance.

Dr. Matz discusses the PPACA-mandated changes to the Medicaid program, including expansion of eligibility, expansion of benefits, and the increases in the states’ financial liability for Medicaid services.
