The average USMLE Step 1 score for our students in 2009 was 237!

How do I score above 230 on the USMLE?

Since its inception in 2000, Doctors In Training (formerly named 'What You Need To Know') has studied what makes one person perform better on the USMLE Step 1 exam than another person. There is a definite formula for doing well on the USMLE, and here it is:

1. Go through First Aid for the USMLE Step 1 three times (DoctorsInTraining.com will help you do this)
2. Take the 15-day DoctorsInTraining.com USMLE Step 1 Review
3. Start reviewing material at least 3 months prior to your test (Jan or Feb for May-June test takers)
3. Complete at least 2000 questions from Kaplan Q-bank or USMLEWorld.com
4. Read BRS Pathology and BRS Physiology
5. Review the first 7 chapters of Robbins Pathology
6. Meet with a study partner routinely
   - At least twice a week for the 5 months prior to your test (Jan-April).
   - Daily the last 4-6 weeks prior to your test (May-June).

What is the DoctorsInTraining.com USMLE Step 1 Review?

This is a two-part course available for any student wanting to perform well on the USMLE Step 1.

Part I
A series of 34 e-mails is sent to you every Monday and Thursday that contain 15 questions (510 total high-yield questions) with specific page references to First Aid for the USMLE Step 1, 2010 ed . This part of the course is designed to help you strengthen your knowledge base for the USMLE by reviewing high-yield information from the first two years of medical school. If you are currently attending medical school, the DoctorsInTraining.com USMLE Step 1 Review will not only help you study for the USMLE, but it will also help you study for the course you are currently in!

These emails begin January 11, 2010 and continue until May 6th, 2010. If you register after January 11th, all of the previously sent emails will be emailed to you as a Word document, and you will be placed on the list to receive future part I emails until May 6th. If you register for the 2009 online course, you will receive all of the 2009 emails upon registration as a Word document with specific page references to First Aid 2009 ed .

Part II
This portion of the course begins on the dates mentioned at the top of this page. It consists of 75 hours of high-yield lectures divided over a 15 day time frame. Dr. Brian Jenkins will conduct all of the teaching sessions, and the reference text for the sessions will be First Aid for the USMLE Step 1, 2010 ed . (2009 ed for the 2009 online course). This part of the course is designed to help you review high- yield USMLE information in a manner that will make it easy for you to remember on the actual test day. Since you will have already learned most of the topics covered, the sessions will be fast-paced and mentally stimulating for a more powerful review. Emphasis will be placed on active learning and on making the information more easily digestible so that it will be easier to relearn and remember on the test day. Additional emphasis will be placed on making vital connections between topics as well as continual review of the information so as to cement them in your mind. Difficult topics will be explained thoroughly in a fashion that is organized and easy to understand.

Why is First Aid for the USMLE Step 1 used as the text?

This book is used as the text because it is your "cheat-sheet for the USMLE." The material in this book is composed from students that have remembered their test questions. If you know all of the material in this book, and if you can answer any question that someone asks you from this book, then you will do very well on the boards.

Why should I sign-up for the DoctorsInTraining.com USMLE Step 1 Review?

Students that take this course can expect to considerably increase their USMLE Step 1 score no matter what knowledge level you are starting from. DoctorsInTraining.com knows EXACTLY what you need to know for the USMLE Step 1 and will make sure your know it! How else are you going to know what is high-yield for this exam? You can spend weeks reviewing low-yield information from your first two years of medical school or from another commercial review course and end up doing poorly on the exam. You need to relearn only what is high-yield for this test, and you need to learn it efficiently!

Review books are helpful, but they can only take you so far. This review course will fill-in the high-yield gaps that review books fail to recognize. The real question is, "Why shouldn't you sign-up for the DoctorsInTraining.com USMLE Step 1 Review?" You have very much to gain by trying the course and very little to lose.

How do I know the active learning lectures will be worth my time?

The truth is that there is no way you can know this until you attend one of the teaching sessions yourself. The refund policy accounts for this fact, and allows you to receive a complete refund of your money minus $50 (for processing and part I of the course).

If you think that the active learning lectures are worth your time, then continue to attend them. If you think that the lectures are a waste of your time, then get a refund and use the next 3 weeks (that you have already set aside to study) in a way that works best for you. In this case, you will have only put in only $50 but you will have received 34 e-mails of questions (510 total questions) over 17 weeks that helped motivate you to study! You have very little to lose and very much to gain.
